Jayapura, Agustinus Makabori, the Head of Stay Permit Department of Immigration Office Jayapura, said 176 foreign citizens extend their visit permit from January to August 2018.
According to him, the Immigration Office Jayapura has issued 74 permits, six ITAP (permanent stay permit) and 206 ITAS (limited stay permit) extensions.
“Moreover, 10 requests to change ITK (visit permit) to ITAS and 7 ITAS to ITAP have been issued. We have also issued 66 Visa on Arrival (VoA),” said Makabori on Wednesday (08/29/2018).
He further explained that his office covers 13 districts and one municipality, including those in the central mountainous regions of Papua. “Of these locations, only Keerom, Sarmi and Jayapura districts people can reach by land transportation. For instance, it takes more than six hours of travelling to reach Sarmi,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Immigration Office Jayapura Gatut Setiawan gave a similar statement. “In the central mountainous regions, for example, can only be reached by plane, no access to road transportation. However, we keep doing our job, that’s our duty,” he said.
Furthermore, he said another obstacle his office faced in implementing the supervision of foreigners is the lack of synchronisation inter-government agencies. Sometimes those agencies think this task is only the responsibility of the immigration office. (*)
